SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — A small club at SUNY Oswego is making its mark on Central New York.

When the school’s Real Estate Club looked to find something different to do this year, members got an idea. A big one. In fact, it was so big, it took up an entire floor of Destiny USA.

Hayden Levi and Eason Lee were two co-organizers of the Central New York Real Estate Conference, which took over part of the mall on Thursday to offer locals insight into the world of realty.

“We gotta shoot for the stars here, let’s do something nobody else is doing,” Levi said.

The event featured over 20 speakers, 80 tables with local businesses and an expected 500 guests.

The team worked to market the conference across the nation, traveling to New York City and even San Francisco on a recent trip. That networking attracted representatives from Micron, Equitable Advisors and PathFinder Bank, who shared their knowledge with attendees to boost the Central New York real estate market.

The students said they were both stressed and eager for the day to come, but either way, the learning was the biggest takeaway.

“Behind the reason we create the conference is about learning this hands-on experience and to grow as a team,” Lee said.

Following the conference, the club said members were not taking any time off. Students planned to continue their work around campus, helping students with leases, aiding locals in renovating their houses and eventually growing into a business.

“The goal in the future is really to build up our own portfolio that we can manage and use as a learning tool,” Levi said.

But until then, their eyes remained set on Destiny USA and connecting the region.
