UTICA, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — The Oneida County Historical Society is displaying their collection of more than 600 different nutcrackers until Jan. 11.

“Its’ interesting to watch visitors come because they will just sit and sort of chill with them and I don’t know what they’re thinking about they’ll just sit and stare at them for a long time,” said director of public programs Patrick Reynolds.

The Nutcracker display was orginally kept in a local bar in Utica, which collected the nutcrackers for more than 30 years. When it was time to sell them, the historical center offered to give them a new home. The display features hundreds of nutcrackers of all shapes, sizes and careers. From rock stars like Elvis, and pop culture figures like Darth Vader, and the Wizard of Oz, to military branches and sports teams.

The display also features a scavenger hunt, alongside custom designed puzzles. With fun activities and other holiday celebrations happening in Utica, finding a reason not to go is certainly a tough nut to crack.

The historical center is open from 10 to 4 Tuesdays through Saturdays. More information about their other programs can be found on their website.
