Syracuse, N.Y. (NCC News) — Syracuse University student voters took advantage of the on-campus polling location at Huntington Hall.
Emma Frasier, 19, emphasized the importance of voting in spite of political cynicism.
“I feel like everybody’s voice matters. A lot of people say ‘I’m just one vote, it doesn’t matter’ but everybody has been given the right to vote,” said Frasier. “Also it’s important that people have fought for our rights to vote so I feel like it’s important that I use my rights and am appreciative of my rights.”
As a first-time voter, Frasier was nervous to cast her ballot but credits the helpful poll workers for contributing to a positive experience.
“I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into it but I felt happy being able to vote and I’ll definitely do it again,” said Frasier.
Savanna Capdeville also had a positive experience despite the longer wait time. Capdeville, who is from the U.S. Virgin Islands, was able to vote for the first time now that she has residency in Syracuse.
“We were all nervous about voting for the first time but it was super nice, everyone working there was super sweet. I got my sticker, made friends by joking around in the line, it was fun.”
