AUDIO TRANSCRIPT: Central New York continues to deal with drought conditions

Caitlin McDonouh: An abnormally dry period in October means farms have received an inch of rainfall so far, which is below the average from last year. Cincinnatus farmer Donald Conrad says this drought is unlike any other.

Donald Conrad: “It seems to be a little bit more extreme. I’ve never really seen that corn die off like it did this fall.”

McDonough: But it’s not just farms without water who are directly impacted. Agriconomist and Milkweed writer Paris Reidhead says droughts affect everyone in the agriculture business.

Paris Reidhead: “So some people are really suffering directly from from the drought and then everybody else is suffering from them too much of what they’re trying to sale so you got a supply demand imbalance So it’s kind of it’s that that parts is pretty discouraging.”

McDonough: Despite the dry spell, rain is in the forecast this week. It’s a welcome sight for farmers during a difficult growing season. Caitlin McDonough, NCC News.
