BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. (NCC News) — As voters in Baldwinsville head to the polls, for one local family, Election Day is more than just a civic duty. It’s a teaching moment.

Krista Wells brought her six-year-old daughter, Victoria, to the voting booths at the Belgium Cold Springs Fire Department, hoping to show her firsthand how democracy works.

While Krista cast her ballot, her husband Michael helped their son understand why participating in local elections matters just as much as voting in national races.

“The local elections are just as important as the federal elections. This is the stuff that impacts us the most,” Michael said.

With schools closed for the day, the Wells family used the time to turn Election Day into a real-world lesson, emphasizing that the decisions made close to home often have the biggest impact on daily life.

For Victoria, it was a chance to see her parents lead by example, and to learn that even one vote can make a difference.

Elliot Pototsky: People in Baldwinsville are gearing up to head to the polls today. For many, voting is a chance to fulfill their civic duty and begin the first steps towards making a change within the community. One family, however, sees it as an opportunity to show their children how the voting process works.

Krista Wells: Try and teach them a little bit about how everything works.
