Syracuse N.Y. (NCC News) – Kendrick Lamar’s smash hit “Not Like Us,” topped Apple Music’s global song chart in 2024 and became Lamar’s first-ever No. 1 on the year-end global songs chart. The music streaming site released end of the year lists Tuesday and provided listeners with data on their own most listened-to songs.
Lamar is followed by Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things” in second, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” in third, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” in fourth and Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” in fifth.
From the 100 songs included in Apple Music’s song chart, 39 songs are from female-identifying artists, a record first in the chart’s 7-year history.
Japanese hip-hop Creepy Nuts’ track “Bling-Bang-Band-Born” topped Apple’s most-read lyrics in 2024. Behind them is “Not Like Us,” “Espresso” and “Birds of a Feather,” by Billie Eilish. Creepy Nuts’ breakthrough track also topped Apple Music’s Sing chart, which allowed users to see which songs fans sang along to the most. “Idol,” by another Japanese group, YOASOBI came in at No. 2, falling a spot back from its first place spot in the chart’s inaugural year.
The newest addition to Apple Music’s suite of 2024 year-end charts is including a Shazam Global Radio Spins chart, which uses Shazam to discover what songs are being played on radio stations around the globe. “Houdini,” by Dua Lipa sits at No. 1 there, followed by Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” and Tate McRae’s “Greedy.”
Apple Music’s Replay is also available Tuesday, allowing subscribers to engage with music that was most popular on the streaming service this year.
Spotify Wrapped is rumored to be released December 4, allowing users of the alternative music streaming service to Apple Music to see their top ‘listened to’ artists as well.
