VIDEO TRANSCRIPT: Caught on Camera: SUV smashes into box truck in Syracuse; nearly hitting house

( Loud sound of an SUV slamming into the side of a box truck )

Max Williams: A scary situation caught on camera of the moment an SUV fleeing from police slams into this truck on the Northside of Syracuse last night.

Jazmine Holloman: Then I heard a loud boom, and that’s not normal because, usually, nothing goes on outside this street.

Williams: Jasmine Holloman was just coming home from work when the SUV and truck nearly missed the home across the street from her. She immediately ran over to help.

Holloman: I did run in the house to grab a hammer so they could get them out through the window area.

Williams: The Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office said this all started when an Onondaga deputy spotted a vehicle driving recklessly on Grant Boulevard. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. The male driver ignored the deputy and accelerated away. Shortly after, that’s when the SUV crashed, and then the driver ran away.

Holloman: Little car accidents happen, but this is like something major. Like this could have went through somebody’s house.

Williams: Yeah, scary situation there. There was a woman in the front seat of the SUV and two people in the truck. All three were injured but are expected to be okay as police are still investigating at this hour. Reporting in studio, I’m Max Williams.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — A high-speed police chase ended in a violent crash Tuesday night on Grant Boulevard in Syracuse’s Northside, startling neighbors nearby.

According to the Onondaga Sheriff’s Office, an SUV fled after being stopped by officers and lost control while racing down the street. The vehicle slammed into a box truck that was making a turn, tipping it over and snapping a nearby telephone pole in half just inches away from hitting a home.

The driver of the SUV fled on foot. Three people were injured, but no fatalities were reported. Police are still searching for the suspect.

NCC News spoke with a resident who lives across the street from the crash. She said she had never witnessed anything like it before. Her Ring camera captured the entire moment.
