LIVERPOOL, N.Y. – The old Aspen Athletic Club building in Liverpool is now an 18,000-square-foot roller rink named Skate N Place.

Over the years, the Syracuse community had Sports O Rama in Mattydale, a cherished skating rink for almost five decades. The iconic venue is now an empty lot. The absence left by Sports O Rama, however, has been filled, giving local skaters a new destination to strap on their skates.

Payton Wilson, a Syracuse resident, says this skating rink is exactly what she and her friends needed, “My mom used to go skating back in the day so I’m really happy that I can go skating now.”

Beyond recreational skating, Skate N Place offers learn-to-skate classes for roller skating newcomers and for adults seeking to relive the glory days of roller discos, specific time slots have been designated for adult-only skating.

However, not all skaters share the same level of enthusiasm. Nevaeh Richardson voiced a differing opinion, stating, “I love roller skating but I just think that like they’re a little bit strict on the rules like you’re not allowed like if you fall they blow the whistle at you can’t have your phone out.”

Despite varied opinions on the rules, Skate N Place operates from Wednesday to Sunday, offering flexible hours for skaters to join the fun. The rink is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for private events.

Whether you’re a seasoned skater or a novice looking to glide into a new hobby, Skate N Place aims to be the go-to spot for roller enthusiasts.
