<TRACK 4> TAG (0:10) Polls close at 9 p.m., and results are expected later tonight. Reporting from Cicero, I’m Ben Rosenberg, NCC News.
Voters in Cicero headed to the polls Tuesday to decide on town leadership positions and local propositions that could shape the community for years to come. Polling sites opened early at 6 a.m. across Central New York, drawing a steady flow of residents throughout the day.
At stake are several local offices, including Cicero Town Supervisor, Town Clerk, and two Town Council seats, along with a countywide proposition on term limits for legislators. Many residents say local elections, though often quieter than national races, have the biggest impact on daily life — from road maintenance and taxes to community services.
One of the candidates hoping to make that impact is Rob Santucci, who is running for Cicero Town Supervisor. Santucci, a retired teacher and the town’s Democratic Committee chair, says he entered the race to give voters a new perspective on how local government can serve the community.
“I just saw an opportunity to put a new voice into the town board,” Santucci said. “It’s time for other voices to be heard — that’s why I put myself on the ballot.”
Santucci has spent much of the past two months going door-to-door, meeting residents face-to-face and listening to their concerns. He estimates he’s personally knocked on nearly two thousand doors.
“Every day I say to myself — you started this journey, you believe in this journey, and people believe in you,” he said. “That’s what keeps me going.”
Throughout Election Day, voters trickled steadily in and out of polling sites like Cicero Elementary School and Cicero United Methodist Church. Many said they were drawn by the chance to have a say in how their town is managed — especially as the population continues to grow.
Polls close at 9 p.m., and results are expected later tonight. No matter the outcome, the decisions made today will help shape Cicero’s future and the lives of Central New Yorkers for years to come.
